1:1 live meditation coaching for Headspace

A concept for a new Headspace feature: booking 1:1 live meditation sessions with coaches. I worked out why it is worth building and for whom, what could get in the way, and what each side would need, then designed the flow as wireframes in Figma and built a landing page with a no-code tool.

The brief

Headspace is a UK-based company in the healthcare market, specialising in meditation. Its core product is guided meditation, offered on a freemium subscription.

The brief was to launch a new feature on the Headspace app and website. I proposed 1:1 live meditation sessions with meditation coaches. I started by working through what the feature needs to do, why it makes sense to launch, what could get in the way, and what each side would need from it.

Why launch it

The feature only works if all three sides get something out of it.

Headspace users: real-time feedback on their meditation technique, more focused practice, and a place to clear up their doubts about meditation.

Meditation coaches: extra income, an easier way to find clients, and a chance to build their network.

Headspace: more revenue, more new users, and more daily active users.

What could get in the way

For Headspace: keeping sessions professional and comfortable, holding a quality bar for coaches, and finding the people, technology and budget to build it.

For coaches: having enough good coaches, onboarding them, and having them available on the schedules users want.

For users: finding a session at a time that suits them, at a reasonable price.

What each side needs

Headspace users: discover coaches (experience, details, ratings), schedule appointments, set up to attend sessions, and track their progress.

Meditation coaches: accept appointments, give feedback on a session, and see a meditator's history of sessions.

Headspace: manage subscriptions, promote the service to new and active users, and analyse and track how users experience the feature.

Wireframes: the landing page

I turned the requirements into wireframes in Figma. The landing page introduces the 1:1 feature, lists what it helps with, explains how it works in four steps, introduces the coaches, and offers monthly and yearly plans.

Wireframe of the landing page: a brief about the 1:1 feature, a row of topics it helps with, a four-step how-it-works strip, three coach cards, and monthly and yearly pricing cards.

Home after subscribing

Once a user subscribes, their home page leads with upcoming and past sessions, followed by a searchable list of coaches showing each one's experience, ratings and details.

Choosing a coach and booking

Clicking a coach opens their profile with their subjects, experience and ratings, next to a calendar and the next available slots, so a user can book without leaving the page.

Past and upcoming sessions

Past sessions keep the date, coach, session recording, session notes and a rating. Upcoming sessions show the date, the coach and instructions for the session, with a calendar alongside.
